Sunday 30th August 2009 Scottish Challenge Cup
Celtic's first Scottish cup tie ended in success after a 4 - 0 win over a determined Gourock Youth team.Celtic started well and scored withn the first minute, good work on the right from Sean MacLean linking up with Jordan Davidson, who shot goalwards, the keeper got a hand but only to the foot of Sean Reilly for the easiest of tap ins 1 - 0 Celtic. The second wan't far away, strong play from Davidson, muscling his way past the central defenders, leaving him one on one with the keeper,he finished superbly 2 - 0.Good defending from McDowell and Ckrystal making goalkeeper Harvey a constant spectator. Celtic on top now, but with some scrappy play and a poor surface, did'nt allow for a flowing game of football.Celtic got a third before the break, James Pollock with a crisp finish after running from half way unchallenged to make it 3.
Half Time 3 - 0
The second half started with Celtic on the attack from the start, but Gourock where still in this tie and showed some clever midfield play, but there forwards were no match for the home defence. An early Jack Gorman strike warming the hands of the away keeper. The keeper was the busiest player on the park as Celtic looked to finish the game off.The fourth and best came with minutes to go Sean MacLean rifling in a shot from 18 yards 4 - 0.
A good result but the boys can play much better, the next round awaits.
