Scottish Challenge Cup Under 13’s
13th September 2009
First Round
Petershill 2 v The Celtic Boys Club 6
Celtic continued there winning ways, with a hard fought win over a strong Petershill team, at a sun drenched Summerston.
Not much for the two keepers early on, as the battle for supremacy was fought in midfield, both sides trying to manoeuvre an opening for there attacking options. It wasn’t till 15 minutes in, that Anton Black had his first save, a tame shot from inside the box. The home team were picking up all the loose balls and any breaks were going there way, and so it was to prove when they were awarded a questionable corner after strong challenge from McDowell. From the resulting kick they took the lead, the in swinging cross was parried out by Black only to the incoming striker to head in from close range 0-1. Celtic, still trying to get a hold in midfield, with Lamont and Clark fighting for every ball, where now pushing for the equaliser, and with some good work from Pollock and Davidson they allowed Reilly a shot on goal well saved by the Peesy keeper. Just as the half was ending Petershill scored a second. A free kick on the left, was partially cleared, was met at the back post from the unmarked forward, sliding it by Gorman who smashed the post trying to prevent the goal 0-2.
Half time 0-2
Celtic two goals down, were now chasing the game, and with there first attack they pulled a goal back, good work from McGhee, dribbling past three Peesy players found James Pollock whose delicate pass put in Jordan Davidson to strike crisply into the net from 18 yards 1-2.The bhoys were now in this match and with some strong play from Pollock, he was awarded a free kick just outside the box, Sean Reilly territory! He sent the resulting kick, hit sweetly with his left, finding the top left corner of the net a “beauty” 2-2.Petershill were no match for the hoops now, and with every attack Celtic were looking to score. Celtic now three at the back, marshalled superbly by McDowell with Ckrystal winning everything that Peesy had to offer. Pollock was now on fire, his run into the box was only stopped by a crude challenge resulting in a penalty, with Jack Gorman dispatching low into the right side of the goal 2-3. 3 became 4 soon after, a great run from Mark McGhee was stopped by a fine challenge at the edge of the box, the ball rebounding to Sean MacLean who chipped the keeper from 25 yards 2-4.With every run from McGhee, Celtic looked dangerous, and number 5 duly came, a shot from Davidson hit Pollock directing it into the net 2-5. The football at times was a joy to watch, as the young hoops with every attack looked to score. The six came as Pollock cleverly put Davidson in, his fine strike unstoppable 2-6. The young Hoops playing with confidence and skill will be a match for any one, as there second half display totally dominated a very good Petershill side who will be among the honours come the end of their season. Onwards to the next round for the young Hoops.
